69 years ago on this day, President Truman signed EO9835, the "Loyalty Order"

The order was designed to root out communist influence in the U.S. federal government.

Once the investigations became known, around 5,000 government employees resigned their positions...
1953, President Eisenhower signed EO10450 extending restrictions to ALL jobs in the federal gov

Security threats were "Any criminal, infamous, dishonest, immoral, or notoriously disgraceful conduct, habitual use of intoxicants to excess, drug addiction, or sexual perversion."
Eisenhower's order was whittled down and refined with other government decisions, a Bill Clinton EO12968, and various court rulings over the years...

But the LAST EO signed by Obama EO13467 sought to explicitly repeal the last vestiges of Eisenhower's Order...
