Let's have a conversation about legacy characters shall we?

I feel like some older DC fans hate the idea of legacy characters growing up to better than the og.

Which I don't understand.

Think about the message that puts out to young people:
"You can't be any better than the people before you."

That's a bleak message and a incorrect message to send.

Incorrect because its obvious you want the next generation to be better than you and because whether you like it or not they will be better.
Which is totally expected if they are mentored by someone SO powerful.
Also who wants to read a comic where the younger gen can never be as good as the older gen?
This is why books like DCeased are so interesting.

Its interetsing to see what legacy characters take from their mentors and what things they throw away and improve that they did not like from their mentors.
Like Damian becoming self-reliant and more emotionally responsive than his father because he didn't like that Batman relied to much on Alfred for small things like sewing a cape.

Becoming more emotional responsive becuause he choose to undergo therapy.
I guess what I am trying to say with this thread is that please stop saying "so and so" can't be better than the og.
