We discovered the first coronavirus in 1965, and we've intensely studied vaccines for >100 years. We don't typically find serious "long term" issues from ANY vaccine. Real infections cause far more serious issues than vaccines. We know COVID causes serious issues. Get vaccinated!
To expand on this: as much as we may not like to think about it, we accept some level of risk just by existing. We could get struck my lightning by going outside. At best, we have to choose the path with the least risk. The COVID vaccine is that path... (cont'd)
The fact that this mRNA vaccine is "new" concerns people. mRNA is what our cells make by the trillions all day every day. We get infected by viruses like COVID all the time. Our bodies are literally full of viruses. These viruses produce mRNA normally.
So mRNA sounds new but it really isn't. When COVID infects us, it hijacks our cells to make over 20 different genes (in the form of mRNA). Then it spreads throughout our bodies and to other people. Sometimes this causes seriously negative short term and long term effects.
The vaccine produces ONE of these genes, in a controlled way, in one spot where it's injected. It doesn't make viruses that eff with your body, and it doesn't spread. It's literally "virus infection training wheels" for your body to experience a tiny fraction of a real infection.
Which would you rather have? Something proven to cause serious consequences with high risk, or a tiny training wheel version of that where everything we know from 100s of years of research suggests it will be very low risk and then protect you and everyone around you?
Get vaccinated. It's one of the closest things we've got to superpowers to protect us from scary infections. Vaccines are one of the best and most successful public health measures we have ever invented.
