I need a *spatial* and *visual* tool for thought, with back-linking.

There is a particular itch I’m trying to scratch for thinking through ideas and processes — and I can’t quite scratch it with an outliner.

So I’m just gonna talk out loud for a while to find the words...
When I have ideas — they are disjointed.

Partial, incomplete, out of order, disconnected.

Bits of relevance that are *solid* and *usable* thought — that just hasn’t yet found context. https://twitter.com/brandontoner/status/1309612642286350336
Often I can *see* the map. (Or feel it?)

I *know* I can assemble the picture if only I could adequately organize the pieces.

Roam was the first thing that gave me a feeling of power. A feeling that I could reign in and sort these disjointed thoughts into some sort of whole.
The trick though, is that while I can *see it* — what I *really* mean is that I can see *some* of it.

When my *in brain* focus shifts, the pieces I once held fall away!

I can’t hold it all at once!!
Which is why I need/want to externalize it //

The ideas come as lists, checklists, process points, contextual tips or decision making supports. Ideas for system improvements.

But I need to a way to map the *whole system* to give those contextual thoughts proper scaffolding.
I want to be able to explore the same thing from different perspectives and levels of abstraction.

From 30,000 feet — but then also into the nitty gritty details.

Then I want to position the details within an ever expanding map.

Building a zoomable and navigable resource
The things I need are not all that complex even.

Have the time I just need flow charts!!

With some logic, and the ability to have links to more detail somewhere within a step.

But other relationships too. And not even objectively defined relationships!
Like, just positioning things *near* each other — with different sizes and colours — conveying relationships in super informal ways.

Like Scapple! — but with a UX that I could think in. Space feels competitive in scapple. Like I need to know how all the pieces fit beforehand.
The UX in something like MindNode feels good. But is wayyyyyy too limited.

Mindmaps are cool, but like, let me reconverge some branches — let me apply some transculsions, let me color outside the lines — let me link deeper, and expand out to connect perspectives.
