I ask @SenMikeLee to reconsider his vote to block bipartisan legislation to establish heritage museums for American Latinos and American Women. These museums wouldn’t divide us as a country, they would help us more fully appreciate the beautiful tapestry that is America.
Furthermore, your vote has the potential of sending the wrong message to our Latino brothers and sisters here in Utah and across the United States. Please consider the effort, sacrifice and contributions millions of Latinos have made to help shape this country.
When I visit the African American History Museum or the Polynesian Cultural Center, I become more aware of and grateful for the beautiful diversity in our country. Simply put, I learn. This would also be the case for millions of people that would visit these museums.
And we could all use more awareness of, respect for, and immense gratitude towards the role of women in our lives and in the making of America—past and present. Many of these stories haven’t been told or fully understood.
Senator, the Utah I know and love would enthusiastically join with every other United States senator that supports this legislation and the establishment of these museums.
