1/ Brexit and the 40,000 or so avoidable covid deaths are symptoms of a broken political system in which the ruling elite serves only itself and its super-rich patrons, and manipulates the electorate through lies and nationalist theatrics.

2/ And the fact that around 40% of the population are so susceptible to nationalist propaganda stems from broken post-industrial communities, poor education, and a media dominated by tax-dodging press barons or governed by the truth destroying notion of 'balance'.

3/ If we want to save the UK from the spectre of populist insanity, and rejoin the EU, then we first have to make significant progress in addressing the political, social and media problems outlined very briefly above.
