i feel like kunikida is the most misunderstood bsd character besides dazai. the fandom portrays him to be this angry uptight straight man when that is simply not the case.
he is a man of ideals. he struggles with internal battles on the daily and makes rules and ideals in his notebook to follow. nobody talks about how this is clearly his coping skill. his job is tough. working for a.d.a. he’s had to make tough calls and has seen death many times.
all of the a.d.a. members have some type of hobby or philosophy they use to cope with the nature of their job. kunikida and his ideals/notebook are no different. it’s also part of his ability so of course he takes it very seriously.
and this idea that’s hes a straight cis man is just wrong bc 1) nobody in bsd is straight tbh it’s the gayest fucking show in existence 2) his canon first impression of dazai is that he’s attractive and might cause trouble. kunikida canonly thinks dazai is handsome.
if you read the light novel “osaka dazai’s entrance exam” you get to hear about dazai and ada from kunikida’s perspective and it really showed me what an amazing character he is. he’s so stuck on the morals of everything he does bc he really is trying to be a good guy.
kunikida is insecure. at times he was jealous of dazai bc he sees him be so care free and flirting with women all the time. he yells at dazai a lot because he wants what’s best for him. even if they got off to a rough start, by the end kunikida admits that dazai is extremely-
-intelligent and he’s very impressed by dazai’s skills. he’s actually come to respect dazai even though he won’t admit it outside his head.
in conclusion kunikida is very misunderstood by the fandom and i think we should try harder to analyze the true character of every one in bsd :)
