In 1996, there was a measles & meningitis outbreak in Nigeria. Pfizer, actually founded by wealthy European settlers, came to Kano & without informed consent, used hundreds of sick children as lab rats to test their experimental antibiotic, Trovafloxacin. They also skewered the experiment to give favorable results by under-dosing the control group. These were children.

When the state of Kano sued, Pfizer went to court to block the lawsuit and argued that the fatality rate of Africans with bacterial meningitis is usually higher.

The State of Kano tried to litigate this four times and it was all dismissed.

In 2007, the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Justice revisited the case after it established that the government did not approve the trial, and that the letter of approval Pfizer used was forged.

In response, Pfizer hired investigators to dig up dirt on the Nigerian Justice Minister, Michael Aondoakaa. The US government then swooped in, revoking Michael Aondoakaa's visa and imposing sanctions on him for corruption and he was declared unfit for office. The case died.
