Gov. Ducey says he is listening to our community leaders and health officials, but then why is he refusing to increase the COVID-19 mitigation efforts they recommend?
Researchers from UofA, ASU, and NAU all cited research that shows that the most effective mitigation efforts are lockdowns, mask mandates, closure of schools and businesses where it's easy to spread the virus.
AZ healthcare leaders are asking Ducey to step in and require these mandates as hospitals become overwhelmed in their ICUs and their staff burned out. Honestly, his lack of action tells our frontline workers that he doesn't care about them or their ability to do their jobs.
It might be too late to reduce the amount of infections/deaths we will see in the next few weeks, but if we act now we can have a huge impact on what we see in January. Every Arizona life is worth saving. We should be doing everything we can to keep Arizonans safe.
We need to help businesses that are closed or would be hurt by closures, more unemployment benefits, expand eviction moratoriums, and help people stay in their homes. By not doing these things, we are saying some Arizonans lives and businesses are expendable.
