To me this is the one movie quote that sums up the liberal delusion better than any other. The idea that the individual is somehow inherently rational, but the collective is an irrational mob.
But in every sense, isn’t the opposite true? The individual is a weird freak who holds 5 strong political beliefs, 3 of which contradict the other 2.
No death penalty except for white supremacists. No taxes except to fund the army.

There is no “great man,” or “perfect man.” Even the great men were a bunch of neurotic freaks who just got lucky and talented enough to navigate into the right situation at the right time.
Every person is irrational and driven by bad base instincts and weird psychology

But the collective is where these hypocrisies and irrationalities get ironed out through collective goals.
The union takes a bunch of disparate workers and unites them against the boss.
The party takes disparate people and unites them towards a party goal

In volume, irrationalities can still surface but, with the right goals and right understandings, rational ones will be just as if not more likely.
And, as a group, they can also be achieved through pressure and force.
The individual has no power. The collective does.
