1/If you’re playing the @BadgerDAO x @DontBuyMeme promotion, this is a very cool attempt at a *cooperative game*. Unfortunately the win may already be clenched by whales. (I explain below.)

The rules are seemingly simple: collect six NFTs and redeem them for a prize worth 1 BTC. https://twitter.com/badgerdao/status/1337594249613877248
2/Four of the NFTs are minted by staking at most 200 $bBadger which earn at most 5 pineapples per day. Two of the NFTs are minted by staking 0.00006625 $bBandgerWBTC which also earn at most 5 pineapples per day. Pineapples are not transferable.
3/The players can be divided into two classes:

- Players who have enough capital and addresses at their disposal to mine the NFTs at the maximum possible rate (Whales).

- Players who cannot and must cooperate with other players to win (Badgers).
4/To be a Whale, you would have had to:

- Obtain 2 addresses with 0.00006625 $bBadgerWBTC each (~$10K).

- Obtain 4 addresses with 200 $bBadger each (~$8K).

- Obtain 4 genesis MEME Grail Relic NFTs for a 20% mining boost in each address.

- Stake on the first block of the game.
6/One unfortunate consequence of this setup is that any optimally situated Whale who gets their transactions verified in a timely manner will always win.

Moreover, probably the best play for Badgers is to sell 10-pineapple NFTs on OpenSea.
7/This likely means that only the 20-pineapple NFTs matter at all (since all the others can be mined or acquired previously).

There are several addresses, the First Whales, which began mining in the very first blocks and those will be the first to receive the 20-pineapple goods.
8/One hope for Badgers (or later Whales) is that the First Whales verify too late or forget to. But given how competitive the on-chain action looks, I wouldn’t bet on it.
9/In general, the idea of cooperative games is very cool. It comes from game theory and is also the basis of voting power indices like #banzhaf.

It’s the idea that if Badgers coordinate with each other, they can win payoffs that are higher than if they work alone.
10/For example, six Badgers can agree to mine the six required NFTs in order to win 1/6th of the bitcoin prize. If they acted alone they might win nothing, or at best flip a single NFT.
11/It’s great to see cooperative games being experimented with. We need more experiments like thus in blockchain and better coordination tools to coordinate Badgers.
12/For example, a site where players could register what block they will receive a particular NFT and form coalitions would probably be enough to get the game to an optimal outcome.
13/Good luck to all the players, you’ll need it. :)
