Alright, there’s a lot of people who don’t understand how the Chargers ownership works. Here’s a thread on Chargers ownership and why the Spanos family will never sell. The are 3 sides to ownership
Bill fox owned a small minority of the Chargers and recently passed away. He helped purchase the team in 1966. I don’t know his exact amount he owns, but it’s at or around 1%. His family has probably taken over his shares. https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2896641-chargers-minority-owner-bill-fox-dies-at-age-94.amp.html
George Pernicano is the other minority owner and he passed away in 2016. He at one point owned 7% but last known reports were 3%. Again, I assume is 3% now belongs with his family https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2668088-chargers-minority-owner-george-pernicano-dies-at-age-99.amp.html
The other 97% of the Chargers organization is owned by the Spanos family. Specifically, Dean Spanos, Michael Spanos, Deo Spanos, Alexis Spanos, and Michael Spanos. https://www.espn.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/70657/san-diego-chargers-ownership-at-a-glance
The Chargers are a family run business and do not report to a board of directors. They are run more closely to a small business like a restaurant owner then a company like Amazon. They report only Roger Goodell, the Commissioner of the NFL and the NFLPA.
The only way a member of the Chargers can be forced to sell is in the event of some embarrassing scandal. Even then, that portion of ownership would likely need to be sold to one of the other Spanos family members or the families of George Pernicano or Bill Foxes
The Chargers belong almost entirely to the Spanos family. They will likely never concede control because it was literally a gift given by Alex Spanos to his children. Alex Spanos purchased the team in 1984 and proceeded purchasing shares from all the other minority owners since
The Chargers are a family run business.
