Now that we’re going back to 1970s food, I feel it’s time to share some gems from my Mum’s ALL COLOUR Hamlyn cookbook. Are you ready people?
Here’s the book itself. In full colour. One thing I have noticed is the Le Creuset dish on the bottom right, proving that good design never ages. Like England’s attitude to Europe.
Want to dress up the chlorinated chicken? Aspic is your garnish of choice. Here it is in glorious colour. The lemons and peppers might cost the price of a small family car soon but never mind!
Liz Truss was very worried about the apples. Never mind Liz, I have the recipe for you!
An old favourite that never went away (unfortunately). These come with peas and olives
Leftover turkey at Christmas? No problem, get that handy bucket of gelatin out and immerse it completely in aspic. It will keep longer that way. And don’t forget the cucumber
To celebrate our new relationship with France try this! Vive la mayonnaise. Yes the olives look like nipples, but nobody thought like that in the 70s. They were too worried about having foreign olives. Or impressed. Depending if you came from up or down the hill (local joke)
Cannot wait to use up all that offal we’ll be eating with this culinary combination
Just as well we’ll have control of our fish, I’ve been dying to try this one
When the food parcels from Germany arrive we can all try this one
Finish off with a lovely cake... actually I like the look of these
I hope you’ve enjoyed these recipe suggestions. For added enjoyment here is some 1970s attitude to the role of women with your coffee...
The End
The frankfurters made it in twice. Oh well that’s frankfurters for you
