A huge pet peeve of mine has always been people who expect children to think like, talk like, and act like adults. Yesterday, @stephanygomer and I saw a little 3-4 yr old girl crying (as Christmas shopping makes my husband want to do!). In spite of feeling stressed, herself...
...the mom (or aunt or grandma...) calmly got down to her level and spoke to her with the same calmness she wanted the little girl to have. She smiled and told her, “I know you’re tired, baby... me too. Whew! We’ve been busy...” No yelling, no heavy sighing, no theatrics..
.. the adult acted like the adult and didn’t pitch a tantrum or engage in theatrics (which of course would have made everything worse). Obviously this was an exception, not a rule, but it stood out to me. It’s the same approach I always used with my daughters... and husband! 😂
... as my youngest daughter and I were walking away, I noticed the little girl wasn’t crying anymore. She actually giggled and I said a silent prayer for both of them and prayed that the little girl would always know how lucky she was.
