Most animals hate the cold. In arctic ocean where a typical fish starts to freeze at -0.8 ℃.If the water is colder, tiny ice crystals will soon infiltrate the fish through gills and start growing from within.Nerves are severed, tissues damaged, and the fish dies within minutes.2/
But crystals don't bother Antarctic icefish🐟.....WHHAAATT?
YES,This fish carry antifreeze proteins in their blood and body fluids. These cold-adapted creatures carry antifreeze proteins in their blood and body fluids. 3/
These antifreeze proteins bind ice crystals❄ and smother them by dividing the long and growing crystal fronts into many small and curved fronts. This inhibits crystal growth just enough to prevent the icefish from freezing.4/
A horned lizard sits motionless in the desert sun, eyeing a young coyote sneaking nearby.
When coyote locates it, they pounces and holds the lizard down. Then it gingerly nibbles-
BUT..WAIT they immediately regrets it. why?
5/
A stream of nasty-tasting blood squirts from the lizard's eyes, straight into the coyote's mouth. The coyote steps back, shaking its head from side to side in disgust. It retreats, wiping its muzzle, while the uninjured lizard skitters away to safety.6/
the process is quite simple. A pouch below the lizard's eyes, the ocular sinus, swells as it fills with blood. With a sudden surge of pressure, blood forcefully squirts out in a stream that can travel up to 6ft. 7/
Ant colonies have different types of ants filling different roles, including ants whose job is to defend the colony against attackers.
For "Exploding ants" defending the colony " means more than just biting attackers with their mandibles. 8/
Worker ants of these species have large, poison-filled glands that run down the length of their bodies. When under threat, they will violently contract its abdominal muscles to essentially blow itself up and spray the sticky poison on the attacker.9/
The explosion purpose is to release the corrosive chemical irritant, which can immobilize or kill the attacker.
Although this also kills the ant,her action can help save the entire colony.Whether or not the exploded ants are honored with a hero's burial...sounds like superhero!10/
Killdeer birds showcase a very unique technique, which is called the ‘broken wing act’. It is a distraction display, which is used whenever a predator approaches their nest. The adults act as if their wing is broken and they keep flapping and calling a distress call loudly...11/
Normally, the predators are attracted to an easy kill so they follow the injured bird, away from the nest. If the predator comes too close, the adult can always “heal” and fly away. In that time, the hatchlings may run away from the nest.12/
Otters “hold hands” while sleeping, so they don’t float away from each other. So CUTE....RIGHT?đŸ„°
But Do You Know....WHY?
Otters have a fear of losing their family members while they are sleeping or relaxing. 13/
