I just feel so horrible for Mr. Bennett and the other Dino Fury cast & crew who have to constantly see the pessimism, sarcasm, and negativity from this fandom. I wish i could express just how long of days they work & just how much of their lives and souls they put into this show.
They give it everything. The Rangers have left their whole lives, and can't even go home for the holidays, and the crew, production staff, and creatives are all constantly working. They never stop. They put everything into every show or film they work on. The last thing they
should see when they check the hashtag for the show they've poured everything within them into is fans complaining, demanding, or being pessimistic. We're a self entitled, cliquey, regressive, lot who could do and be so much more. These people see what we say and do. Be Rangerly.
A Ranger thinks about what they say and do, and how it impacts others. A Ranger chooses empathy over sympathy and apathy. A Ranger thinks about how they can change the world, micro and macro and is never apolitical. A Ranger doesn't just look and listen, they see and hear.
Yes there are things i would like to be different, but i never equate them with the quality of the thing i love, or take it out on the people working to make the next incarnation of the thing i love. I never get mad about what could have been or what could be, i look for the good
and try to get the most out of it. I look beyond the physical, through the reflection of the helmet, and try to see the different person inside in everything that i do. That's the spirit of Power Rangers. They wear their feelings and their experiences on the outside as color.
The things we hide, the things we can't express with words, the fibers of what we do not or always wanted to say, those fibers become the suits, the colors that Rangers wear. They turn their flaws, their histories, their feelings, and their experiences into power. When those
powers, from different kinds of people come together, they can take on and take out the true villains, the real problems, the threats to life that are trying to keep us apart or keep us silent about the things that really matter. You can't build a Megazord without the legs.
The things I'd like to see change about the thing i love aren't superficial or hollow, they're important. All i can do is express that in the colorful kids media landscape where it is more diverse than ever, i'd like to see Power Rangers evolve to include new types of people.
If the rest of children's media is diversifying behind the scenes and within the media itself, its up to Hasbro and eOne to do the same. Power Rangers should look like those shows, and TO those shows to see how they're leaps ahead in terms of showing this world as it truly is.
The stone carved Greek statues of the last 27 years, and how they're cast is barbaric. There should be new cultures, body types, genders, and orientations represented. No two kids or fans watching look, love, sound, dress, or romantically identify the same. I want the next
generation of fans to not have to dig or create fan works to be represented in this franchise. If there's one thing i would change its that. People behind the scenes have been fighting for that little for so long. Its time things change. If a potential new audience finds out that
there is someone like them, they will flock to this franchise. I have never once seen another gay man or someone with a body like mine in that spandex and it hurts me. Everything else that could, or might need to change comes later. The things that really need to change aren't
superficial things like team ups, crude kids humor, or clunky connections to lore. Its the diversity behind and in front of the camera or on the comic page that should matter most. The people working hard on Power Rangers right now are just doing that, working. Don't ever take
your fears, negativity, or disdain out on them. After my mom died, i started to do something my therapist at the time said might get me over some of the hurdles of grief. These words are like my mantra now. They haunt me. I'll never forget them. "Consume with childlike wonder.
Train your brain to look and listen using your heart first, not your eyes and ears. You don't enjoy something by focusing on the bad, and kids don't see that stuff anyway. All they see and take away from media are the things they like, and the people who look and love like them.
Don't worry about the rest. When a queer kid sees a server at a restaurant with a pride pin, they don't remember the burnt pizza they were served, they just remember seeing someone like them in an aspirational way." Those words haunt me & changed the way i do and see everything.
THAT DAY was the day i started my channel, and my whole life changed. It was the day my perspective shifted and i woke up. I began cutting toxic people, practices, and things that didn't make me happy or feel and see that wonder out. Its like i saw color for the first time.
Empathy is our greatest superpower. The people on the other side of the screen have hearts and emotions. Do and be better. Choose wonder and kindness. Find that color, wear that color, show what's inside on the outside and harness your power, your voice, and be Rangerly.
