Attention, Twitter. I need input. I now have a publisher interested in our project to produce a book in which black intellectuals summarise the work of their favourite black intellectual who addresses issues of race & racism & why they think their approach so valuable. (cont)
We want this book to include the widest possible diversity of thought from Kendi to West to Sowell. We want Critical Race Theorists, Marxists, liberals, libertarians, conservatives, separatists, universalists and more.
The purpose of the book will be to show the sheer diversity of black intellectual thought on the subject of race. It is inspired by the number of black members & contacts of Counterweight who tell us that they object to the idea they should have a certain political view cos black
Most often, they tell us that they feel pressured into taking on Social Justice forms of anti-racism & intersectionality when they are actually much more socialist, liberal, libertarian or conservative (sometimes religiously socially conservative Christians or Muslims).
However, other people feel pressured by their family, community or peer group into taking on socially conservative ideas they don't agree with or get Thomas Sowell quoted at them a lot when they lean towards the black radical socialist tradition.
Counterweight is a liberal humanist organisation & thus in support of the Marketplace of Ideas. It has become increasingly clear that while black intellectuals appear all over that marketplace, recognition of this fact is often missing from conversations about addressing racism.
Therefore, this book will attempt to include as wide a range of ideas as possible. It will also include a chapter on statistics relevant to the political & intellectual diversity of black people more generally so as not to give the impression that all ideas are equally popular.
So, finally getting to the point where I need your input. Please tell me, people of all races, who your most admired black intellectuals who address issues of race & racism are so we can decide upon 12 who will represent the broadest range possible & also be of popular interest.
