How many of us do this to ourselves years after years?
I've done this to myself for the last five years.
Losing my close friend at a early age and the tough situations that followed, this was my main belief system about myself all this time. "I am like this b'coz..."
Recently I've learned that believing this statement, intentionally or unintentionally, I have given away my power.

This statement implies that we have no choice. We are who we are because of the people and circumstances around us and we have no power over ourselves. This also leads to blame, complaining, judgement and resentment.
We often also do this because we don't want to take responsibility for our actions and behaviour. It's easier to hold someone or something else responsible than being honest for our own shortcomings.
Let me tell you this from personal experience. "We are not the way we are because of the xyz thing in our life.
We are like that because we chose it." We are mostly not in control of the people or circumstances in our lives.
We are like that because we chose it." We are mostly not in control of the people or circumstances in our lives.
But we are actually hundred percent accountable, responsible and in control of how you choose to be, behave or respond to those people and circumstances.
Accepting that takes brutal honesty. But that's what true growth and maturity is.
