Funny story
a few months before we signed our book deal I had a random encounter with a book designer, whoâs now a friend, that ended up with them showing my work to staff at the publishing house they worked in at the timeâŚ

âŚthe staff really liked my work but they couldnât get over me not having a website, despite all my work and contact info being readily available on my social media platforms
so they didnât reach out.

Fast forward 4yrs and I still donât have a website
but what I do have is an award winning bestselling picture book

I share this story to say to artists that a âprofessional veneerâ isnât everything. If your work is good then put it out into the world by any means available. Donât get hung up on what you think the industry needs you to look like or stuff you can attach later down the line.
And to publishers and agents who still donât get thisâŚstop getting hung up on the âperfect packageâ
if you like the workâŚhire the person. Simple. The only person thatâs gonna lose out is you. Good work almost always finds a way in the end.
