So, just came back to Twitter & saw the mantis starting sht again. Honestly, I’ve been worried abt our fandom getting out of control recently, esp w new fans joining the fandom. There’s one fandom rn that is so incorrigible & we could literally turn into them in the future...
Yall probably saw the MDZS/The Untamed tweets so I assume quite a lot of stan Twitter know abt that Chinese drama. The Chinese fandom of the actor who plays the main character, Wei WuXian, is out of control. & it’s kinda creepy how many similarities I see w our fandom sometimes
The actor started out as an underdog. He works hard, had struggled until he suddenly blew up w The Untamed. I was a fan of the novel & anime so I was aware of the drama before it even came out, & thus I saw the whole process of how a super nice & woke fandom became the worst one
When the drama was first released, I followed the actors on Weibo & saw the fan interactions, which were really nice. They were fans who saw the struggles of their idol & wanted to make things better for him. It worked, for months. Then suddenly, a new wave of fans joined...
I don’t rmb when, but out of nowhere a new influx of fans came & the numbers of his fandom increased to a point where he’s currently the biggest celebrity in Weibo (like, his engagements are >>>> BTS Twitter engagements!!!).
His fandom noticed the sudden increase & w it came the awareness that their numbers are big enough for them to actually hold soft power on social media. Because of the actor’s bad history w the industry & his agency, his fans are overprotective.
It’s honestly fine if they’re just worried abt their idol & wants the best for him, but their actions have gone overboard. The worst part is that their numbers are so huge that even the gover can’t control them, which is a first for China lmao.
His fandom started treating everyone that is not him as an enemy. They sabotaged his friends, group members, fellow cast members, basically everyone in the industry. They organised a mass dislike party to lower the ratings of a drama he was in because he had little screentime-
Even though he was barely a supporting character that shouldn’t have much screentime at that point in the story. What pisses me off, personally, is that this drama is my favourite Chinese drama of all time, & his fans gave the drama so much bad press

But aside from my personal opinion, his fandom really fcked themselves over w this move. This drama wasn’t your run-of-the-mill idol drama. It’s the best & most ambitious production China has done in DECADES, & it has a cast of the biggest actors in the country.
China has never assembled so many S-list actors in one drama, not even some of their big budget films can get this cast, it was like having a cast made up of Meryl Streeps lmao. Two of the senior main actors in this drama has won the Chinese Oscar equivalent 3 times EACH!!!
The fact that he got a role in a drama of this caliber (it happened before he blew up) is a fcking blessing from heaven cuz he’s the only idol actor in this whole drama lmao, while the rest of the cast are amazing actors.
But his fans were so blinded by their need to micro-manage his career that they forgot all of these, & proceeded to ruin this phenomenal production. It got to a point where the drama’s ratings were so low because of the spam negative ratings that the main lead (my poor baby)-
Had to post on his social media to ask his fans to help out & give the drama a good rating, as he posted a screenshot of HIMSELF HAVING TO RATE HIS OWN DRAMA

Bruh, it’s like when DCEU fans were spamming Avengers: Endgame w bad ratings. But can u imagine how sad it is that the main lead had to give his own drama a good rating, ask his friends & his fans to do it too?!!! My heart broke, ok...
Aside from that, his fandom continued to antagonise everyone, & even trended a hashtag filled w nasty comments abt another artist who appeared on a singing program w him (this poor dude is like the nicest person in the whole industry I’m—
).

They were so horrible to everyone that his coworkers got scared of his fans & it became awkward cuz u could SEE everyone was tiptoeing around him so they don’t accidentally piss off his fandom. Then came the penultimate event that really ended him in my eyes
His Chinese fans didn’t like that The Untamed blew up worldwide & that with it came a whole lotta international fans who wrote fanfiction. If yall on AO3 yall know the amount of MDZS fanfic there.
His fans were homophobic & very against the LGBTQ community (am I surprised? No
) & they didn’t like that the international fans were writing fanfics shipping him/his character w other guys, & also the variety of
spectrum fics that ppl were writing on AO3.

They didn’t like it because they don’t want him to be defined by being part of a BL ship (bruh, he’s the one who acted in & blew up from a gay drama lmao) cuz they thought it would damage his career (it’s China so...). They proceeded to boycott these fanfics & mass-reported it-
Rmb eggsols’ petition to the blue house to disband BTS?? His fans mass reported all the fanfics to their government, & the government used this as an opportunity to commit a massive human rights violation by banning & deleting AO3, & various fanfic archives
The fandom basically gave the government an opportunity to censor more stuff than that blasted country already did. & that is something ppl cannot forget or forgive. After this happened, ppl were obviously mad, & this was the tipping point that turned the GP against him
He was removed from broadcast, got fired from new projects because his fans fcked up & ruined his career. The industry blacklisted him & it’s been almost a year now & he’s still blacklisted. Even the massive amounts of money the capitalists could earn from him wasn’t enough.
This whole story ^ right there is an example of how a fandom should NEVER BE!!! We’re on dangerous ground here & we’re pretty close to crossing that line rn. I NEVER WANT TO SEE ARMYS HURT BTS
There’s caring abt them & there’s possessiveness. This whole thing with Time magazine is borderline obsessive & it’s a step in the wrong direction
STOP GIVING SOLOS A PLATFORM FOR CLOUT.
Solo stans love using the ‘what if it’s our bias’ argument to justify their actions, but my bias has been overlooked by ppl quite often & u don’t see me complaining????
EVERY MEMBER HAS HAD MOMENTS WHERE THEY WERENT IN THE SPOTLIGHT. The world is unfair, u can’t expect everything to work out the way u want it to. I can literally list out all the times when EVERY BTS MEMBER got played dirty & it’s a pretty equal balance
In the end, everything balances out so no one is at a disadvantage. Solos only see their favourite so they never actually cared abt equality
