The Republican Party has been evolving into what it is today beginning in the late seventies when the so-called Vulcans (e.g., Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz) began planning world domination in think tanks in Washington DC...
... and they’ve been snookering the lower middle class and upper middle class whites since then, beginning with pseudochristian concepts like Family Values and a Thousand Points of Light, and ending with xenophobic nonsense like Caravans and Fake Women In Bathrooms...
It sickens me that literally millions of people, mainly white people, continue to buy into white supremacy as well as think they’re all part of the top of the GOP’s massive pyramid scheme, when so many of them, white women especially, are being sold down the river...
I remember growing up in the 80s and fucking hating and fearing Reagan and what he stood for _then_: an economic model that completely benefitted the rich, the denial of the AIDS epidemic, Star Wars, the Cold War, the War on Drugs, and expanded capitalistic imperialism...
And there was a part of me somewhere around 2017 that thought, wow... I never thought the GOP would _ever_ become this way...
But it all makes sense to me now. This is _exactly_ what the party bosses, the conservative think tanks, the emergence of conservative media platforms, and people like the Koch Bros. have been planning for forty fucking years...
What scares me now is that most of America is drunk. It’s drunk on materialism, xenophobia, nationalism, and exceptionalism...
Most Americans have no real sense of how things are really made, how they work, and how dependent on others they are. All that matters to them are fucking guns, a bible they’ve likely never read or properly understood, and nationalistic catch phrases like MAGA...
And I fear that things are only going to get worse because they won’t forfeit white supremacy. To them, everything is a zero-sum game and they want to choose the easiest path to “success”, for some completely distorted and twisted notion of “success”...
The people in power will die knowing they’re wrong and having lived too scared to change their ways, or too fucking stubborn to do so because of a hyperinflated sense of entitlement to the American Dream...
And everyone buying into the Republican scam is willingly giving that power to them, even if it means surrendering their own liberties...
Trurnp will indeed finally leave the fucking White House next January... but he’ll end up somewhere high up in the GOP, and fossils like McConnell and Graham will remain in place, continuing to rip up the Constitution or stonewalling any progress...
I hope I am wrong... but I am frightened... really frightened... because the shift to the right and the rise of the chicness of white supremacy is _everywhere_ in the world. There is no other country that is “better” than the US right now in terms of political health...
And so, I’m staying put in my little bubble in SF, watching the GOP burn everything down outside of it, and the Democratic Party giving them the matches by sidelining progressives who could make _real_ change to the world...
Ugh, I need a shot of whiskey...
