I've spent all year trying to process GE2019, and the decade beforehand. While I think it best not to wallow too much in it, nor to engage with witless centrists about it, here a few things I've done in response that I hope will be helpful to friends and comrades ...
First up, my @RepeaterBooks account of GE2019 day - the range of emotions, the things that didn't work, and what I expected at the time to be the consequences of the result. https://repeaterbooks.com/in-the-intense-now-juliet-jacques/
In February, an episode of @RPCorpIntl with Jack and @wariotifo to look at how the left might recover, and what might come next. If anything we weren't pessimistic enough about the future direction of Labour https://soundcloud.com/reelpolitikpodcast/episode-141-eternal-war-ft-juliet-jacques
Many of the @Suite_212 Sessions recorded during lockdown dealt with GE2019, its aftermath and the media's role in it, but especially the ones with @owenhatherley @Tai_Shani @nrolah & London Co-op filmmaker John Smith https://soundcloud.com/suite-212/sets/the-suite-212-sessions
Another podcast, with @maxhaiven & @DrAKomporozos for @ReImagineValue on post-austerity generational divides in UK politics and media, made starkly clear in GE2019 https://soundcloud.com/reimaginevalue/our008
Part 1 of a long essay about divides in England: city/town, young/old, left/right/centre, legacy and social media, and how the Covid-19 disaster was unthinkable without the public sphere being tanked to stop the left https://www.patreon.com/posts/things-fall-in-i-39893593
My @Suite_212 interview with @jeremycorbyn about his relationship with the arts, Labour's cultural policies in 2015-19, the legacy of cultural democracy and what politically-engaged artists and arts workers might do next https://soundcloud.com/suite-212/the-arts-for-all-an-interview-with-jeremy-corbyn
That's it. Like many of us, I'm trying to reconfigure my relationship to politics after the last year, think about how that manifests itself in creativity and activism, and where the left might regroup and reassert itself - which I think we will. Forwards!
