Even though I've always kind of understood that, for a lot of people, the existence of poverty is necessary and performs a key function in their ideology, it still always feels weird when they just say it outright?
Must be capitalism's biggest success to have inculcated this belief that, because any invididual can theoretically rise to the top, *everyone* could do it, and therefore fuck anyone who doesn't claw their way up to the big office
I don't know how you make these people understand that most of their companies would collapse without the people at the bottom who earn the least money
Also not all of us want to be the boss, or to have our self-worth tied to our careers. I have always deliberately done the easiest possible job that will earn me enough money to live off, which in my case is basically dull pen-pushing
I earn marginally above the real living wage because my bottom-rung admin job is considered skilled work even though it's way less demanding than the minimum wage service sector work I did before. Just pay everyone enough to live on for fuck's sake
