We don’t just have the scandal of large scale human trafficking in #Holbeck, the rapes of girls and young women by grooming gangs are used as ‘currency’, as ‘rewards’ to friends/family/business associates. It’s about money, as much as power, as much as sex
The cash-rich businesses like takeaways, and taxi firms, operate as perfect contact points. Because young, poor girls and women become ‘obligated’ during the grooming process. And then, the violence begins.
But if you’ve experienced abusive homes, the care system, and Social Workers that try to blame the victim (let’s ‘build resilience’ to being predated on by adult men? Let’s teach you ‘how to stop abuse’?) is there really much difference when a newer relationship becomes violent?
I’m so angry, because feminists have known for decades that child abuse grooms women for the sex trade. That’s what we’re condemning these girls to. A life of feeling their only value is the ability to survive extreme sexual abuse.
Additional: do you wonder why many ordinary people vote for anti-immigrant policies (like Brexit)? People living cheek by jowl with large immigrant populations that are protected by police and Councils, over their children, will naturally develop antipathy with them
Having to be aware of this danger, on top of the danger of abuse from (usually same ethnicity as victims) men in the family/friends network, is exhausting for parents and destructive for community integration. These men need to be condemned, by all sections of our society.
Local ‘community leaders’ may not be engaging in the exploitation industry. But they are not taking enough action to make the criminal abusers face sanction. Nor are Labour Councillors, famously dependent on the ‘Asian block vote’. Nor are our Police
There are so many benefits to immigration; it enriches our culture. But having gangs of 1st/2nd/3rd generation immigrants operating as a huge criminal network to rape and exploit our girls and young women us a huge disbenefit, and we need to deal with it.
