1. In many ways, Edith Wilson (wife of Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United States), could be likened to Aisha Buhari.

Woodrow Wilson was the charismatic leader of the free nation during World War I. He introduced the activist foreign policy, the “Wilsonianism or
2. the Wilsonian idealism.” He was a leading advocate of “The League of Nations,” a precursor to the United Nations. He made his mark during & after the World War I, by attending almost all public functions, speaking to audiences, captivated Americans & fascinated the world.
3. He was the first president to make the “State Of the Union Address” in over a hundred years.

Then suddenly, this charismatic leader withdrew from public eye. It will take the next 70 years for Americans to discover what really happened.
4. This revelation was shocking, it was the diary of Woodrow Wilson’s personal physician that painted the vivid picture of what led to his sudden withdrawal from public eye. On October 1919, Wilson had been hit by a severe stroke, which left him bedridden, & partially paralyzed.
5. The wife was presented with difficult choices: preserve her husband’s legacies by allowing him to continue to govern, or reveal this sudden tragedy to the world. She made the ultimate choice, difficult as it were, she chose her husband over country.
6. The dice was cast. She would live on to become the “First American female president by proxy.”

Edith Wilson & the President's inner circle, hid the true extent of the President's illness & disability from American public. She decided who saw the president,
7. determined which communications & matters of state were important enough to bring to the attention of the bedridden president, took the decisions that needed her husbands approval. A role she later described as a "stewardship.”
8. Today, she is remembered by most Americans as brave. Most of her actions is welcomed in adulation. She is hailed, not chastised.

Now in many ways, Edith Wilson could be likened to Aisha Buhari (the Nigerian First Lady),
9. whom the husband Muhammadu Buhari is similar fashion, has completely withdrawn from public eye.

Rumor has it; El-Rufai thoroughly scolded the Speaker of the House Of Representatives, Femi Gbajamiabilla, for daring to invite Buhari to speak on the “insecurity” at the House.
10. El-Rufai was furious, he said; “Femi, you ought to know Buhari's poor mental health would be exposed.”

The point of this history class is; “President Muhammadu’s mental health being hidden from Nigerians, will one day be exposed.”
