It seems that the public have this ridiculous perception of what a teacher is, or should be. They think, because our profession involves working with children, we, like someone entering a religious order, should sign our entire existence over to it.
That our families, our health and our lives are all secondary to teaching children. It's ludicrous. Of course we care about the children we teach - but not more than our own children. Of course we want them to be well educated, but not at the expense of our health. Of course we..
will try to do what is best for pupils, but not if that means sacrificing ourselves. I signed up to teach grammar & literature not to become some 19th century governess completely beholden to the lives of others. I love my job. I care deeply for my pupils but #NotAtAllCosts
