F is for Family is probably the most undersung Netflix original but golly is it good. I knows exactly what it’s depicting and it doesn’t sugarcoat it or try to simplify it.
Adult animation can be a cathartic depiction of toxic masculinity perpetuating a cycle of emotional abuse within families that makes me feel less alone in having been thru it myself. Who knew it didn’t just have to be gore or “raunchy humor”.
I like that they make sure to both show that the way Frank acts is wrong, but also makes sure to show that the same sort of abuse deeply effected him and paints Frank getting help and confronting that trauma as the only thing that can really make anything better
It’s just way more than I expected from just another “haha animated family says the fuck word” cartoon
