1 Samuel 15 was the first time I realized I knew very little about what God will and won’t do.

Samuel, a prophet, anoints Saul to be King over Israel.

First act as king? The Lord, through Samuel, commands Saul to kill the Amalekites. Men, women, animals. Everything.
Saul does this but saves the best of the animals to sacrifice to the Lord at the petition of the people. He also takes Agag, the king over the Amalekites, prisoner.
Samuel confronts Saul, notifies him he has sinned against God and is no longer king. “To obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams.”

One strike and Saul is out.
Samuel calls for Agag to be brought before him.

“Surely, the bitterness of death has passed”, says Agag.

“As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women”, Samuel responds.

Game over for Agag.
Morals of the story:

1. Whatever God commands through his prophets, do with exactness.

2. God has commanded men in the past to kill. Who are we to say that will never happen again? I pray it does not.

3. Saul repented, but lost out on a major privilege. Don’t be like Saul.
