I was taught never to hug the kerbs while riding. Drains, potholes, etc r always near kerbs & make it dangerous. I usually ride about 1m from it, depending on traffic behind. Cyclists don’t just cycle in the middle of the lane for nothing.
Also, cyclists can change lanes (if not, how are they gonna turn right at a junction/slip road?) But always give adequate signal & check for traffic. Might need to stop if can’t find space in between traffic too.
Coming OUT from junction turning right sometimes is hard for cyclists too. We don’t accelerate like cars, so the time taken to filter in a lane is longer, therefore we need more distance between cars. Don’t get pressure by cars behind. Drivers need to understand this.
The speed difference is usually what is causing the problem. Cyclists filtering/changing lanes when cars coming too fast while drivers think they shouldn’t need to slow down for cyclists.
I’ll leave a link here that helped my when I started to do more city cycling.

Drivers might find it useful too, knowing the reason of cyclists’ behaviour.

Ultimately, we need to learn how to share roads. Nobody wants an accident. https://youtube.com/c/britishcycling
