Lanka was originally owned by Kuber.

He was the dikpal of North Direction and King of Gandharva Lok.

When Daityas Mali, Sumali and Malyavant couldn't defeat him in battle, they sent their sister to Sage Vishrava who was father of Kuber.

She served the Sage well and asked to marry her as boon.

Then she gave birth to Ravana and his brothers.

She filled Ravana with jealousy for Kuber.

Out of jealousy, he did Tapasya of lord Brahma and asked for boons.

Then he looted Lanka from Kuber.
Later on his Vijay Yatra, Ravana also looted Pushpak Vimana of Kuber from Gandharva Loka.

Ravana was evil from birth.
