I had a humbling experience tonight. While driving around looking at Christmas lights, one of my oldest Army buddies, my first squad leader back when I was a PFC fresh out of Basic Training called me. He is one of the toughest, most resilient and best leaders I've ever known.
When he called me he was crying. Covid-19 and everything it brought has just ruined him. He hadn't eaten in days and has been trying survive on ramen for months. This is a proud man and he called begging for help to get food and to see if I could help him get his power turned on.
This is a man with some immense skills that are normally in high demand. He's also unbelievably motivated under normal conditions. He's lost loved ones to COVID & suicide this year, and seeing a dude who was once a mountain of a man look frail and broken just shook me.
I don't know if its just luck or blessings but I had not properly reflected on my own state and how fortunate and sheltered from COVID and its effects I've been. I was happy to help him but he has a long, and somewhat lonely road ahead.
I was able to take care of his immediate need, but want to do more. I'll be selling a few sports cards here shortly tonight and tomorrow. If you want to help and see something that interests you, please let me know. I appreciate any help. This man is truly one of my heroes.
