Martha's Vineyard style kale soup. You may be forgiven, if you're not from the area, for not knowing that Martha's Vineyard has 5 major heritages: Wampanoag, Anglo, African American, Portuguese (Azores) & "summer people". The Portuguese influence is large. @bijancbayne 2/
If you walk through any Island cemetery & look at the names on the headstones from 100 years ago you'll see lots of Silva's, Silvia's, DaSilva's, DaSilvia's, Bettencourt's & DeBettencourt's — with varying capitalizations. Their descendants are prominent Vineyarders today. 3/
