#xpn2020 More radio insights -> back in the days when people recorded their listening via little paper diaries that Arbitron (the radio ratings company) it was important that stations reminded people that "hey! You listened to us this week" since it was all based on recall...
stations would intentionally do something odd musically to simply remind people "HEY WE EXIST" those were called trainwrecks. There was a good chance people would tune out, but they wouldn't forget it.
Also, diaries were due to be completed by Friday morning, so thursdays were super important. So most big things on radio happened on thursdays, hoping that when you filled out your diary on friday morning because you were a slacker (and they only paid you a buck a day)
you'd remember that cool thing the station did.

This happened until 2009!!!!! It's remarkable to think it lasted that long.
Now most stations don't do this because ratings are based on actual listening, which is why what @wxpnfm does is so critical. The element of surprise, education, and pure delight is so hard to find...
We're so fortunate to have a member based model. You may not be the mainstream, but you're the reason we can do this. You let us take chances that most don't have the luxury to indulge in.
So thank you @wxpnfm listeners. #XPN2020
