New memo from Gov's office attempts to distance Newsom from lobbyists following news that lobbyist Jim Deboo is likely his next chief of staff... and that Newsom attended French Laundry soiree for lobbyist Jason Kinney

Deboo and Kinney have both been paid political advisers to Newsom... so the memo implies that either Kinney has to de-register as a lobbyist (and continue to advise Governor) or that Newsom is dismissing Kinney from his political team.
Kinney advised Newsom during his 2018 campaign, worked for his transition, then launched his Axiom Advisors lobbying firm around the time of Newsom's inauguration. It's brought in more than $10.8 million since then.
The firm's long list of clients includes Facebook, Weedmaps, Netflix, developers, oil companies and more
I explained the Newsom-Kinney relationship a couple years ago, as Kinney launched the firm that was poised to benefit from his relationship with the new governor https://calmatters.org/politics/2018/12/jason-kinney-gavin-newsom-california-governor-transition/
Also worth noting that lobbyists have been in Newsom's inner circle since his first days as governor. Before Gov hired them, Angie Wei was a powerful labor lobbyist and Anthony Williams worked in gov't affairs for Boeing. (Williams left Gov's office & now works for Amazon).
This new policy is less about the revolving door and more focused on the fact that Newsom's political advisers answer to lots of masters. Whether lobbyists or not, many of them are paid by numerous clients with an interest in influencing state government.
