THREAD:

Hi #PreWGA community! We hope you’re staying safe, well, and masking up when you go outdoors. We’re all operating on a different level of stress, and we want you to take care of yourselves.
There is a lot of information on this bird site, especially for us writers. Some of the tips of the trade mean well, while others are misinforming for personal gain.
We wanted to do a thread today about the experience of being #prewga or starting out, or BOTH and what that’s like on this platform, as well as how to navigate all the information being thrown at you.
It’s easy for ANY topic that one wants to learn about to get oversaturated. 240 characters might seem like a little but they go a long way.
In this case, with the #prewga community, we wanted to make sure all of you have the current and correct information to make sound choices for yourselves and your careers.
It’s on us as new writers to seek out credibly sourced information--from people with reliable backgrounds and experience, to guide us in how to navigate Hollywood. And it’s on us to pay it forward in kind.
Social media is a great way to connect. We love it! However, when looking for a mentor in the writing field, remember to do your due diligence: look up their credits, who they’ve worked for, etc. Ask around and see if the advice they’re giving is actually credible.
We believe that there’s room for everyone at the table. Space for everyone to have a piece of the pie (do you like our metaphors?). We also want all of you to be well-informed, so you can advocate for yourselves and each other.
Look at all information you can--just be sure to do what they taught us all in high school English class--double check your sources! As always, the four of us are always here to help you source check.
The holidays can already be tough but this year it’s an extra dose of stress. Sending you all (gloved) high fives. We got this!
