Two writers hired & one more hire in process, for an opportunity that will both allow them to exercise their unique creative skills and look AMAZING on their resumes. And they're gonna KILL IT on the page.

This is damn near as satisfying as I expect selling a show will be.
By the way, here's how I put got into a position to be hiring other writers: I was recruited by a staffing agency as a freelance writer for one episode of a podcast.

The EPs liked my detailed notes on their first cut so much they made me Story Editor for the entire series.
Obviously I also had come in with relevant experience and great samples including over 40 produced podcast episodes. That's what got me in the door.

But having the confidence to give honest and in-depth notes when asked is what paid off with an unexpected higher-level role!
Lesson here: writers need, primarily, writing skills.

But giving good notes can BE EVEN MORE IMPORTANT IN THE CORRECT CONTEXT.

My writing skills would have gotten me one episode of this podcast. The fact that I have worked hard to learn to give good notes got me much more!
Here's how I developed the skill of giving notes:

- Asked a friend who worked in development to share her best coverage samples
- Received notes from people who I knew to be good at notes
- Gave lots of friends detailed notes for free
- I'm perpetually in a weekly writing group
A lot of people see giving someone else notes as a chore you only do in order to receive notes on your own stuff.

I will beat this drum forever: IT IS MOSTLY A THING YOU DO BECAUSE YOU ARE PRACTICING A HIGHLY MARKETABLE SKILL!!!

Do it well, often, and with great care.
