I got a great question in my DMs from a long time follower:

"As a new account do you have any tips or advice to help grow followers"

I am going to go over a in depth thread on the best way to authentically grow your account for your side hustle or passion...

MEGA THREAD!
1/ BEGINNINGS

My personal account was nothing of any interest; I followed my friends, news sites, celebrities, and meme pages. In 2013 I made another Twitter account for my photography but I ditched the idea a couple days in. Photography was not my true passion...
2/ FIND YOUR PASSION

In late high school I started trading stocks & was immediately hooked. I watched countless Youtube videos, read books, etc., you name it - I did it. In college this passion progressed & I held meetings as the Investment club president & shared my thoughts...
3/ THE STOCK GUY

I talked about the market so often that in college whenever a company/stock was mentioned in class there would be heckles of "Gannon do you own that stock", & other jokes tossed around. I was embarrassed by the jokes in class but over time my attitude changed...
4/ FINDING THE NICHE

My embarrassment changed when classmates would come individually asking me for advice, help to set up a brokerage account, & my ideas on the market. Some of the same people who made jokes came to ask questions. At the core, college kids want to grow wealth..
5/ GROWTH

Years passed & my investment strategies, education, and overall market prowess grew & grew. I stopped being afraid of not knowing enough & begging to know more. Where did I look for more? Twitter. I found twitter to be one of the best ways to learn about your passion..
6/ TWITTER

After years of being dormant, On March 15th, 2020, I decided to tweet about the market on this account with 20 something followers to my name. In 5 months I grew to 10k with not a single dollar spent on ads. Here is the no BS truth on how I did it...
7/ DMs

Currently I have close to zero unanswered DMs (and I get alot). I respond to every DM with every ounce value that I can. If I don't know an answer I refer to a friend that does (and ask them to let them know that I referred them). This whole thread is in response to a DM!
8/ DMs Part 2

Often times the people who I refer to are smarter than me, more established on twitter w/ followers, & don't follow me lol. Those people will go "wow they referred me" & might send a follow back, or at least check out my page to see what I'm about...
9/ WHO TO FOLLOW

Follow bigger accounts that you get inspiration from. Even though @david_perell & @mkobach don't talk about stocks 24/7 their tweets have been super helpful with how to tweet threads efficiently & clearly. There is a reason why I follow who I follow...
10/ WHO TO FOLLOW Part 2

I follow people/media who are going to help me with my niche - business & finance. I need to block out the noise.
For example:

@morningbrew
@pomp
@jackbuthcher
@fintwit
@deltaone
@10kdiver
@sjosephburns
@chamath
@stockcats

to just name a few...
11/ TWEET TWEET TWEET

You never know what your "viral" moment may be. My "best" tweets or most engaging ones often are simple questions/quirky relatable in the moment posts - tweets that I thought about for 30 seconds like the tweet below. https://twitter.com/rebelmarkets/status/1288504027056046080?s=20
12/ CONTENT OVER EVERYTHING

What would I want to see on my feed? Often times I get a sense of when my followers are thinking about a particular stock & that is the most opportune time to provide VALUE. No value = refrain from posting it as best you can. https://twitter.com/rebelmarkets/status/1327640156988293120?s=20
13/ HAVE FUN

Nobody likes someone who takes Twitter too seriously. The best way to build a following is to build a community. If you are having a beer on Friday post a photo of it & say cheers. One of my favorite things to do is make market meme videos.. https://twitter.com/rebelmarkets/status/1274433762936393729?s=20
14/ REPLY TO EVERYONE

I reply to as many comments as possible. Engagement > likes, TRUST ME. Welcome criticism, you are here to learn and they might know about the topic more than you and are trying to help you. If someone is stubborn I slap them with the "agree to disagree"...
15/ COMMENT A LOT

Engagement is huge & the bigger accounts that you follow will appreciate your engagement. Set alerts & be active on those accounts that give you inspiration/help you w/ your own thought process (in my case my due diligence). More engagement = more connections..
16/ CONNECTIONS

One of the biggest connections I build through commenting, DMs, etc. is @austin_reif of @morningbrew. He was even so kind to help sponsor a Gofundme livestreaming challenge and one of their employees put me on a "who to follow list". https://twitter.com/MorningBrew/status/1265991924038631424?s=20
17/ SPEAKING OF SHOUTOUTS

When your accounts grow and you get a big shoutout make sure to pin a post telling all the new followers what your account is about and what you tweet about - all in all you don't want someone to follow you who doesn't want to engage with your content..
18/ SCALING

Once I got a stronger following I made a newsletter, Instagram, & Patreon. Each offer a different value & I refer to each to create a "follower feedback loop".

Newsletter: Finance Edu.
IG: Twitter deep dives
Patreon: Portfolio analysis https://rebelmarkets.substack.com/p/why-subscribe?r=71sq8&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source=copy
19/ SCALING PART 2

Companies in your niche will reach out/you reach out to them. I partnered w/ @ycharts for my stock deep dives bcuz of their fundamental analysis tools & @joincommonstock for their groundbreaking investing app. Work w/ who supports you! https://share.commonstock.com/share?inviter=gannon
