During my time in quarantine, I've been able to do a fair amount of reading and have compiled a list of my favorite literary characters that I'd like to share with you here in no particular order (thread)
First up is Lady Macbeth from Shakespeare's Macbeth. I find her fascinating for her incredible ambition and lack of regard for the moral implications of her actions. She, unlike her husband, sees an opportunity to grasp power and takes it, which I find admirable.
Next is Jack from Golding's Lord of the Flies. Despite being a young boy, Jack desires power from the start and eventually uses the others' fear of "the beast" to control them and manipulate their loyalty, keeping them subordinate to his own power.
I'm including the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland simply because she gets points for executing her enemies.
Next is President Snow from The Hunger Games. I don't admire him because he's evil, but rather due to the way he keeps the citizens of Panem in a position to need him. It is also mentioned that he rose to power by eliminating threats to himself through the use of poison.
Finally we have Richard III, from the Shakespeare play of the same name. He is ruthless and manipulative in his pursuit of power, and has the political wit to make it happen.
