1. Members of the @WSCCNews pension fund have just received this communication. On the face of it, it sounds almost positive, and it does mention ESG and Climate Change a lot.
But then you start to think...

2. But of course it mentions Climate Change. When you are watching a house that is on fire - it is impossible not to mention the fire. So you have to conclude that just mentioning that the house is on fire is not enough.

3. It feels a little like the pension fund is worried that it might miss out on squeezing the last drop of profit out of “Big Oil”. That is 100% not acceptable when we are already in the middle of a climate emergency (wildfires in Australia & California, low sea ice in Arctic).

4. Engagement is mentioned-but how “true” will this engagement be ? We have to remember that the ultimate engagement (ie interaction with a business) is to say “No, enough is enough, I am walking away”
