Thread on today's new @JustinTrudeau climate plan.

TLDR: It's better than the past plan, but still woefully short of what we need. But, even so, it's enough action that it renders Trans Mountain obsolete according to the PBO and CER report we've seen the past few weeks.
One big piece, it keeps the Harper 2030 targets. And though it lays out a plan to meet them, these targets are miles away from what Canada needs to do to meet the level of action called for in the IPCC's 1.5ÂșC report.
Next, it leans dangerously heavily on both a carbon tax, and relying on fossil fuel companies to create "cleaner" fossil fuels.

We've seen that neither of these two things usually work out as planned...
One of the biggest promises, is the pledge to create 2 million green jobs, the first inkling that this government is listening to Green New Deal advocates.

But, 2 million jobs sounds a lot like 2 billion trees, and we all know how that promise is going.
Perhaps the most striking is that this new climate plan is coming out right after two government agencies, the @CER_REC & @PBO_DPB clearly stated that more climate action = no need for Trans Mountain.
That raises a question that Canadian media really should be asking - what's the government's plan?

Are they actually planning to waste $16 billion + on a pipeline as a cynical political ploy to try and buy votes in Alberta?
Anyways, there is more devils in the details of this plan than I can really sum up on twitter, but overall, we have yet another plan that might have worked if we still had 20 years to tackle the climate emergency.
