HOW TO (safely) BE A 'RONA REFUGEE IN FLORIDA

- thread -
Lockdowns continue to ramp up across the northeast, and you may be sick of it by now.

Let me show you how to safely escape it by becoming a "snowbird" in Florida.
Unlike what the media says, FL is not some cov-infested hellhole.

Florida ranks 18th in cov deaths. It's a tragedy, but it has not had worse outcomes than any other state.
What Florida has done well is it treats us like adults.

Want to go to a packed bar and risk it? Sure.

Want to stay isolated but on the beach? Go for it.

It may, in fact, be safer here during the winter due to the regional seasonality of other coronaviruses.
That doesn't mean it's risk free, yet you can continue to mitigate that risk.

Currently, Miami-Dade accounts for 12% of all cases over the past 14 days.

And 3 counties in S. Florida are 40% of all cases in the state.
I live on the other side of the state, with lower population density.

Parks and playgrounds are open, and have been for months.

If you have kids who haven't been able to go play, you know how important this is.
So how can you get down here?

Destin/Fort Walton airport is the fastest growing in the country, and there are direct flights with Allegiant to most northeast hubs.

The airlines ran studies, and found no evidence of cov spread risk on plane flights.
So you take a plane or drive down with your family...

Where do you stay?

This is where it gets fun.

During the winter, vacation rentals are about 75% off the summer pricing.

Let me give you some examples I've recently seen...
Maybe you don't want to stay in a condo, and want a free standing house.

You can do that, too.

3/4 for 1,900/mo
If you have multiple families you trust, then it scales into very fun properties.

4/4 in Rosemary Beach for 5k/mo

You can be very safe and social distanced down here.

If you have the means, there's no reason to let your family suffer the winter through a shitty lockdown.
