What is going on in Ireland (a thread)
Ireland is going through an education crisis right now. Minister for Education Norma Foley has been involved in numerous fiascos since taking the role in June this year. She is a first-time TD with no previous national legislative or policy-making experience.
She has refused to close Irish schools, even though Covid is spreading through them like wildfire, and the lack of safety in them has been voiced by many teachers and students across the country. She has blocked numerous people on Twitter who have demanded she closes the schools.
Around 6,500 Leaving Cert students were negatively affected by 2 coding errors discovered in this year’s calculated grades process, meaning an estimated 10% of students received a grade lower than they should have. Norma refused to apologise to the students affected.

In terms of non-school related things, she has voted to seal the Mother and Baby home documents for 30 more years, voted against paying student nurses for their hard work and has also said she would be open to adding restrictions to Ireland’s abortion stance.
The fact of the matter is Norma has been the worst Minister for Education in Ireland’s history and should have resigned by now. I hope that this thread has made you aware of who she really is.
