SAGE told the government in July that local lockdown areas needed “similar and probably more support” than they got in the national lockdown in March.

The meeting was held on July 30 but the SAGE minutes were only published today.
Burnham: "It is now clear that the experts who advise the Government on the pandemic recognised the North needed more help – but Ministers chose not to listen.

“The Government now needs to come clean on why they ignored advice [and] kept this SAGE guidance hidden for so long."
Govt spokeswoman: “At this year's Spending Review we confirmed that the government has now provided over £280 billion of support this year, and we continue to provide further support to local authorities facing the toughest local restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.”
“...SAGE advised on a broad range of considerations to help people adhere to local measures. All this advice has been published as part of our regular schedule of publications”
