My parents used to always send me to the ATM machine for them, after I got my driver's license. 1996-98.
The available balance almost never changed--dad's paycheck.
Today, I put it into a currency conversion, to see how much it would be worth today, & gagged.

Then, I took
The Vulcan's monthly take-home, & put it in reverse, to see how much it would have been worth in 1998.

...spending too much money.
And...people are upset when we use #OkBoomer to describe their ludicrous financial advice?

These people tell US to save money?? I'd like to see them try!!!
Seriously, COME TRY!

Even before I used the inflation calculator, on paper, it looked like my dad (with no degree, in a STEM field) made 2x what my husband makes with a PhD in a STEM field.
And that's not even counting Midwest vs Atlantic coast.

For the record, I'm not a thrifting genius.
I'm a thrifting PRODIGY.

The reason why I looked this up, was because I was trying to get my sister to understand, "Our mother did this to herself." She blew through money, she was entitled as hell, & she still advocates for policies that call poor people lazy, as if they're stealing from her.
It would not have taken much creativity at all to save for the future, to invest, to think around the corners of HER problems, but she didn't. She whined & wanted everything to come to her, because she "worked hard."
So, when Republicans (like my mom) or boomers in general (like my dad) say that we need to work harder, what they MEAN is that they don't want to lose any of their leisure time.
They don't want to say, "Oh, wow, we were paid 6x more than you for doing less work, & that is UNJUST!"
They want to bury their heads in the sand and deny reality.

I just explained all this to #TheVulcan. Something changed in his face, like a type of muscle tension releasing. He's managing all the kids' online school right now, so he doesn't have time to process it, but I can tell he feels lighter.
