Alright mutuals, let’s have a conversation.
disclaimer: I am not here to school u. I’m merely here to add more perspective to the already messy conversation happening since the start of MAW. I am not excusing nor glorifying any form of appropriation, I am not holier than thou.
Most of the accusations are the same, they all start with “islam is not an aesthetic” and you’re correct, I fully support that. However, the attached pictures could arguably be the fallacy in that statement. Attached bellow is the summary I made for the first picture.
“Islamic architecture” can be found in European architecture too, so it’s a bit hard to just pin the aesthetic down to a mosque, when universally the architectural style is used for almost anything, ranging from houses/mansions, hotels and resorts, etc.
it’s like saying that a 13th century building = mosque

Always remember that Islam is first and foremost a religion and belief, culture on the other hand is man made. Muslims are the one who spread the culture, and even then there are so many sub cultures within differing muslim—
sect. Each sect has their own set of cultures and ways of executing the existing words from the Quran and words spoken by the Prophet.
I have personally khatam the Quran almost 10x in my life and I cannot recall any specification for what constitutes as a mosque, but this sums it up: a place will be considered a mosque as long as there is intention for it to be a place for prayers. https://islamqa.info/en/answers/170800/when-does-a-place-become-a-mosque
Further elaboration on the Kaaba, it’s a nicely put thread: https://twitter.com/luv5uh/status/1337420800417124358
the only nail in the coffin for them to actually misuse the religion is if they had used the sajadah as the magic carpet but alas they didn’t and honestly… alhamdulillah for that

That and using scriptures from the Quran😭 Alhamdulillah for small mercies
Additionally i would like to add that spreading lies [fitnah] is a form of (major) sin in Islam [Al-Baqarah : 217], just food for thought.
To conclude, you are within your rights to react however you want to these set of pictures. However you should never let your anger blind your judgement. Always step aside first, double check with the existing information, and make your (public) judgement afterwards.
Islam, like many others, is an old religion. Very rich in its history. Many of us were born into the religion, so I understand why u would have a set of perceptions that may contradict to the many opinions set up on twt bc it looks like theyre justifying the artist and the agency
Which is why I would really like to know what your thoughts are on this and lets just do this civilly, theres no need for outrage. Also I have my Ustadz’s number on my phone so we can always like… double check
