1) First up let me say that you can do email marketing however you want to.
After all, it's YOUR list. That's the beauty of it!
So this isn't about telling you how to run your email list.
It's about clarifying some terms and concepts that are widely recognized.

2) Let's start with my favorite part: Autoresponders.
Autoresponders are tools that turn email marketing into "passive income".
(Depending on your definition of passive income you may agree or disagree.)

3) Autoresponder is a piece of software that automatically sends a series of emails to your subscribers.
Every new subscriber starts at the beginning, no matter when they sign up.
Example:
Day 1: Welcome
Day 2: My story
Day 3: My biggest secret
Day 4: Offer
Day 5: Reminder

4) When someone signs up for your email list, they always start on Day 1.
Then the software sends them the emails in the series, one after the other.
In the example above one goes out every day... but you could change the days to anything you want :)

5) Elaborate email series have emails lined up for weeks, months, and even years.
That's what I love about it!
You write your emails once, and it gets sent out forever.
If you have a solid series that's selling well, you can let it run passively and keep earning from it.

6) Of course you will have to get new people into the email list.
But imagine this:
Week 1: Welcome series
Weeks 2-3: Abs exercises
Weeks 4-6: Bodyweight workouts
Weeks 7-10: Diet secrets
Weeks 11-12: HIIT to burn fat
That's 3 months of email content lined up!!
But imagine this:

7) And in each series, you have content lined up such as:

Whether you're selling your own products or affiliating for others, you can send offers to your email list and earn money.

8) I got carried away a little by autoresponders 
They just excite me every single time!
Here's one last mind-blowing detail:
In your autoresponder software, you can track every email

+ Click-through-rate
+ Sales

9) When you look at your whole series, and you notice that one email has a much lower open rate...
What do you do? You improve the subject line!
Now imagine, as your list grows, you get more and more data on each email.
And you keep improving the emails over time

10) You can be working on your autoresponder forever and keep perfecting it.

Especially when it comes to time-sensitive information
Think of a special offer that you are running, or events such as Cyber Monday.
You can't put that into a series because by the time a reader receives it, it's way past the date.

13) Scarcity and time are two very strong triggers to move someone to buy.
That's the strength of a broadcast.
Examples:
+ "50% OFF until tomorrow night"
+ "One coaching spot opened up"
+ "New product launching next week"
+ "Tickets for my event in Miami"
etc.

14) "But what about XY brand newsletter?"
Newsletter is also used to describe a periodic email. You see it everywhere.
Most newsletters that you receive are one broadcast after another.
How YOU handle your newsletter is up to you:

15) My suggestion is always to build an email series in an autoresponder.
Constantly improve the series:
+ Better headlines
+ Better stories
+ Better call-to-actions
And when you run a special promo, that's when you send out a broadcast to your current list.
