Punnagavarali is a raga filled with karunyam. The 'dheena bhavam' is reflected perfectly using this raga. At the same time the raga has folk origins and some nice folkish krithis exist in this raga
Punnagavarali contains both folk like songs as well as some carnatic music standards. Most of the times the raga is sung during the post RTP part of the concert.
Let us start our listening session with this Tyagaraja krithi which has a nice folk tilt. From his 'geya natakam', 'Nowka Charitram', 'gandamu pooyaruga'
