WARNING: Soliloquy Incoming.

Just wanted to share a few thoughts on intent that have popped into my mind lately.

Doing something and doing something with intent appear the same on the surface, but are entirely different when you get down to it.

It’s the difference between...
Going for a run and running a race.

This was brought to my attention recently when I started learning how to visually evaluate baseball players.

I’ve been watching baseball for like 27 years. I used to recite the stats from NESN for my mom before school. I’ve seen so many games
You’d think that would make me an expert, right?

I would have thought so, but as soon as I started trying to evaluate players, I realized I had very little idea as to what I was really doing.

I’d been watching baseball for multiple decades, but I wasn’t watching with intent.
I could tell you Mike Trout is so good, but if you ask me why more than twice, you’d be at the extent of my knowledge.

I was going through the motions (nothing wrong with that, baseball is meant to be relaxed to and enjoyed!), which is a stark contrast from acting with intent.
I say this to say, don’t confuse doing something with doing it well. You’re not a pro because you’ve done it a lot

We all eat every single day. 99.9% of us aren’t winning eating contests 😂

If you’re working at something, have goals, give your full effort, and take it seriously
It’s the difference between moving weights when you work out and specifically contracting muscles to get the most out of an exercise.

Do some curls.
Now, slow down and focus on contracting your biceps to move the weight.
Feel the difference?

Work with intent ✌🏻
