OK my opinion that no one asked for on Brandon Bernard: The death penalty is rarely ever justified, so I don't believe in it at all, but them choosing to do so was not based on race. I see people comparing him to Dylann Roof, even though Roof is also on death row. (1/?)
I also see people arguing that Bernard didn't even kill anyone, which is just not true. NYT says that Ms. Bagley was not killed by the shot, which means that when Bernard lit the car on fire, he was the one who committed the murder. It was also on a MILITARY RESERVATION (2/?)
What really irks me is that I see people replying under posts saying that they love Bernard and will stand by him no matter what. A) He was convicted for murder B) He and another that were legally adults were both executed and the others were simply too young. (3/?)
C) It's still a terrible crime and action nevertheless, and comparing him to mass murderers and saying "OH LOOK, HE'S NOT AS TERRIBLE AS THIS GUY IS!" is like saying, yeah but at least Mussolini wasn't as bad as Stalin. Yes, dramatic point but it was the first thing that (4/?)
came to mind. I feel that comparing a crime to another crime in this scenario is just people trying to claw their way to a 'moral' highground in order to try and justify a point. Look at it from the other perspective, he's a murderer, it has gone through court, end of story. 5/5
