Here are a few bullet points to consider before undertaking Hifdhul Qur'an, given to me by my teacher and through experience alhamdulilah.
1) Always start the journey of memorising the Qur'an with the correct intentions. Our intention should be to do it for the pleasure of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
Another intention we make is inshallah we learn the Qur'an to protect us from any punishment and open the doors of Jannah

.. For us.
A heart which has the Qur'an in it will never burn in the fire.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said "If the Qur’an is gathered into a single vessel (i.e. the heart), Allah will never burn it in the Fire."
[Reported by al-Bayhaqi]

2) Study under a teacher or a tutor. This journey is difficult and requires a teacher to listen to our sabaq, sabaq para and dhor. It's very very difficult doing it on your own.
There will be times when you feel like giving up etc - the teacher is that rock that keeps us steady

3) Always stay away from sins, our hearts can't combine sin and Qur'an together. It also severely impacts our ability to learn the Qur'an.
4) Don't ever worry about how long it takes to complete the journey, it can take twenty, thirty or fifty years, it's about doing it properly.
Inshallah even if we die during the journey we will be raised amongst the Huffadh.

5) I'd also suggest just to keep the fact you're starting the journey of Hifdh between you and your family and possibly close friends.
People will just come up to you and unnecessarily ask about Hifdh and why it's taking so long etc. It's NEVER about how long it takes

6) When you learn sabaq, always learn the sabaq katcha pakka (Semi - learnt) between 'Asr and Maghrib - about 80%.
Then inshallah straight after Fajr you fill the remaining 20% and that should take no more than ten to fifteen minutes inshallah.

7) Remember the Qur'an carries alot of heat, so I'd advise you to drink a glass of cold milk with ice cream to cool your head as it can get warm. Salawat is also good for this.
8) Hifdh is three parts
Sabaq - The new sabaq you intend to learn for the next day. Start off with a small amount (six lines for example) then build up slowly inshallah. Set how much sabaq you intend to learn before starting inshallah.

Sabaq para - This is all the sabaqs in the para combined. We need to make sure we continue to go over this, rather than just learning one sabaq and moving on.
Dhor - This is revision of the previous paras, make sure at the beginning at least read one para as revision to make sure we don't forget what we've learnt.
9) As sometimes a women might fall in her menses what should she do?
Of course don't learn sabaq, there's two things you can do:
A) Listen to the Qur'an
B) Look inside without reading or touching the Qur'an.

10) This journey requires serious dedication, effort and consistency. Timing is also very important - what time to pray which part and making sure you're up early every single day.
11) Shaytaan might influence us and make us quit, remember he doesn't want the Qur'an in our hearts. Keep persevering, sometimes will be easy and sometimes extremely difficult. It's all part of the purification process.
12) Some people about which reciters to imitate. Use them as a guide but always remember there's nothing more beautiful than your own unique voice.
13) Always learn your sabaq in a cool and quiet place, away from distractions.
That means put your phone in another room or give it to your parents - no lie the phone can become a major distraction and halt our progression.

14) Always look after the Qur’an, perfume it when you can, make sure it's a well kept place and elevated. If we look after the Qur’an, it will look after us on the day of judgement.
15) Always make sure you get plenty of rest and sleep. Make sure our food is on point, nutrition is so important
16) Regularly make dua to Allah سبحانه وتعالى to make it easy.
17) There's a Qur'an I would suggest you guys purchase. Because there's a lot of similar ayats in various places in the Qur'an, you need this Qur'an to tell you what's where.

18) Try not to read or learn the sabaq too quick, as it becomes difficult to pray slow when asked to.
Learn slow so you can pray fast and slow as you wish.

19) Listening to Qur'an really helps with strengthening memorisation.
20) It's about Quality not quantity.
